It’s that time again! Forget ghosts and ghouls, it’s all about psychopaths, zombies and purging this year at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights!
For those that aren’t familiar with the event, for more than 20 years, Universal Orlando Resort has brought peoples worst nightmares to life during its annual event, Halloween Horror Nights, becoming home to haunted houses, inescapable scare zones, hundreds of frightening “scare actors” and live shows.
Previously guests have walked through the ruined gates of Hades, become prey to blood-craving zombies and more, but this year it’s about to get another level worse! Let’s have a look at what we know so far…
YES they’re back, and with a vengeance!! Here’s the roundup on this years scare zones…
The Purge: Anarchy
The Purge: Anarchy moves from the confines of a suburban neighbourhood to the streets as the government begins its annual 12-hour Purge to ensure that the crime rate stays below one percent for the rest of the year. With all emergency services suspended, it’s the one night when society regulates itself without thought of punishment or fear of retribution.
The Purge: Anarchy scare zone will greet guests with pure unadulterated fear, bringing to life the turmoil and pandemonium that awaits those vulnerable to masked vigilantes in search of new victims. Like civilians in the movie fighting to survive, guests will be at the mercy of cunning wit, luck and speed as they attempt to outsmart and outlive the anarchy brought about by those who believe in an “eye for an eye.”
Face Off – In the Flesh
An all new street experience with ten different character creations inspired by the acclaimed Syfy series, including a look designed by season 5 “Face Off” winner and Universal Orlando make-up artist, Laura Tyler. The hair-raising, horrifying characters will inhabit five unique and immersive environments within the scare zone, from eerie scarecrows that go to great lengths to protect a spine-chilling farmland to ghoulish brutes that haunt dilapidated castle ruins. Universal Orlando promise it will be a uniquely terrifying opportunity to come face to face with these creations for the very first time now “In the Flesh.”
A glamorous masquerade ball is revealed to be a macabre dance of death. These dancers have had a few lifetimes to prepare, but beware, when the masks come off and the stitches are ripped away you’ll find that beauty may be skin deep, but horror oozes much deeper.
Bayou of Blood
A brand new and original scare zone this year. Venture into the Louisiana bayou where practitioners of voodoo are seeking unwilling victims for the night’s ritual sacrifice. Will you make it out alive, or will your blood be spilled on the sacrificial altar?
With promises of at least one live sacrifice every hour, it’s definitely a scare zone you don’t want to miss!
There are some big horror names in this years haunted houses. making it clear that HHN 24 is going to be one of the best ever. Let’s take a look at the houses…
Follow in Michael Myers’ footsteps as he begins his historic night of horror. John Carpenter’s classic original film comes to life – just as yours is coming to an end. It is Halloween night and no one is safe as the psychotic killer embarks on a murderous rampage. With his iconic mask to hide his identity, Michael sets out for new blood and will stop at nothing as he stalks his victims. Every scene tells the tale of a different kill and if you’re not careful, you could be next.
In the largest haunted house Universal Orlando® has ever created, you’ll journey through the most recent season of AMC’s The Walking Dead from the prison on your way to Terminus, dodging flesh-eating walkers every step of the way.
A spine-chilling maze, guests will find themselves thrust right into the middle of the primordial battle between the Aliens and Predators as they visit one of Weyland-Yutani’s secret facilities to assist with a situation that has surfaced. Guests will have to navigate through the labyrinth of destruction within the facility and avoid becoming collateral damage in a violent and savage battle between two horrific extraterrestrial species. Whoever wins… we lose.
Based on the hit TV series, chaos reigns inside this remote biker bar as you discover it’s filled with an ancient race of bloodthirsty creatures. The ordeal will leave you drained – in more ways than one.
Your demise could come from bloodthirsty vampires or the attacking Turks as you attempt to survive the terrifying journey that turned the one-time hero into Dracula. The house will introduce guests to the sadistic Transylvanian ruler Vlad Tepes, known as “Vlad the Impaler,” who infamously tortured his enemies by impaling them alive with a wooden stake and suspending their bodies.
Those who enter risk becoming one of the unfortunate souls with no hope of escape. Surviving the malicious dolls who wait inside will be anything but child’s play.
Evil clowns are not born…they’re made. The joke’s on you as you explore an abandoned factory where body parts fly and evil clowns are assembled from what’s left.
We all love them, they break up the scares and offer a bit of a reprieve – the shows of Halloween Horror Nights! This year will see the return of the hilarious Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure! Party on as the two “excellent dudes” return to skewer/rip the biggest names in politics, showbiz and pop culture. Also returning is the amazing Rocky Horror Picture Show – A Tribute which is set to do the time warp again and rock out to clips from the classic film with amazing live tribute performers and the promise of plenty audience participation! Rock on!
This year the rides that will remain open for Halloween Horror Nights are: Transformers: The Ride 3D, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy, Men In Black: Alien Attack, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and The Simpsons Ride.
