Disney testing hotel room unlocking with mobile phone & MyDisneyExperience app

We’ve been hearing rumours for a year or so now, but it seems like this is actually true. Walt Disney World are now looking at using bluetooth to unlock your hotel room doors in selected hotels using your mobile phone.

From what we know of bluetooth door unlocking, you’ll be able to put your mobile phone next to the Mickey unlock pad and click the My Disney Experience app to unlock your door. Perfect for those who don’t like wearing their MagicBands all the time.

Bluetooth door entry is not a new concept to hotels and is already in place for many top chain hotels throughout the world but Disney is now looking to explore how to fit this in with existing technology and their My Disney Experience offering.

We’re personally really looking forward to this being rolled out, as it allows for a little more freedom away from your MagicBand (no more tanlines!!) and also for those emergencies where you left your band in the room.

The test is set to begin really soon at Disney’s Polynesian Village and the Grand Floridian Resort, for guests who wish to take part.
